Dear Tamar

To my sister,
    who has confided in me-
                              the rape
I know my tears,
                  outrage and
                              compassion
won't help
                  you
                          escape
the murder
                  of a piece
                              of your body and soul,
the invisible gapes
                  that leave you
                              not feeling whole
and the theft
                  of your virtue
                              no, you're not to blame
for his evil,
                  heinous act-
that has left you in pain
all I can do
                  is pray
                          (as you do)
that you're
                  able to sleep,
be strong and stay true …
to think - Jesus died
                  for that monster-
                              the sins of fallen man
the rape
was an abomination
                              and a violation of God's plan…
He loves you
                  more than we love you
and He will make a way
for you to be at peace
                  and sleep well
                              each night after you pray
and that monster…
                  he'll surely get his
                              no crime goes unpunished
just have faith
                  that He'll heal
                              and restore you
and watch
                  how your spirit
continues to flourish
